Please choose between the following encapsulation methods:
Many women prefer their placentas to be encapsulated raw based on the idea that heat destroys vital enzymes in food. It may also be the case that the raw method yields a medicine with more hormones and nutrients than the TCM method. When your placenta capsules are prepared using the raw method, the placenta is thoroughly washed, carefully diced and dried, all without being exposed to temperatures higher than 118F. This method may take slightly longer, but often results in more capsules that may have higher nutritional content.
TCM Method — add $25
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory, the process of labor and birth leaves a lot of open, empty space, which is considered very yin, or cold. Therefore, many women seek to promote healing during the postpartum period by adding yang energy via what Chinese herbalists refer to as "heat". Using the TCM method, I gently steam the placenta with lemon, ginger and chili to add this heat, before dehydrating and placing in capsules. I steam for a short time so as to preserve the quality of the placenta. The final result is a warming, tonifying, and nourishing remedy for the postpartum.
Additional Placenta Services
Placenta Tincture— $45
Placenta tincture can be used in times of trauma, transition, emotional distress, and hormonal fluctuations such as PMS and menopause. The tincture is highly shelf stable, lasting many years, and can even be made into a homeopathic remedy for the child. I tincture your placenta in a high grade alcohol and provide you with approximately 8 oz of tincture in an amber glass dropper bottle. This process takes 6 weeks, and is an additional $45 when combined with encapsulation. Placenta tincture ONLY (no capsules) is $200.
Yoni Steaming Herbs and Seat — $75
Yoni steaming is a traditional postpartum practice that helps to facilitate healing and toning of the uterus and vagina. Learn more here.

Maybe you are wondering....
Why consume your placenta?
The consumption of the placenta after birth is a common practice, and for good reason. The postpartum period can be challenging for many women, up to 80% of whom experience some form of postpartum depression or "baby blues", a mental and emotional state characterized by anxiety, feelings of discontent, and weepiness. Consuming the placenta is seen to remarkably counteract this phenomenon, restoring physical and emotional balance to a woman after giving birth.
Most mothers who consume their baby's placenta report faster recovery, improved feelings of strength, energy and balance, more breast milk, and improved moods. It is said that consuming a small part of the placenta immediately after birth reduces blood loss, and longer term consumption replenishes essential vitamins, minerals and hormones, as well as reduces the incidence of postpartum depression. All of these amazing benefits are likely due to the fact that a healthy placenta contains an incredible amount of iron, vitamin B6, vitamin E, oxytocin, corticotropin, stem cells, and cytokines. Learn more about these elements and the benefits of placenta consumption through the Independent Placenta Encapsulation Network.
PLEASE NOTE: No specific benefits are guaranteed when consuming placenta pills and individual results may vary. In the event that you begin to question you and/or your baby's physical and/or emotional safety, contact your primary care provider immediately.
