Revive Your Feminine Power with Shakti Mudra
Do you ever wish you had a secret super-power? A quick little tool you could use to clear energy, reset your vibe and revive your feminine power?
A mudra — or sacred hand gesture — can be just that.
Mudras are said to evoke cosmic consciousness and move prana (life-force in Sanskrit) to release stagnant negative energy. They can be thought of as an energetic seal that keeps your energy flowing through your body, rather than dissipating out through your fingertips, so that whatever intention you are working with can integrate more deeply.
The combination of subtle movements of hand or body, which create a mudra, alter mood, attitude, and perception to ultimately deepen awareness. Mudras are said to stimulate higher mental functioning, and are often done in correlation with meditation, breathing techniques, or yoga postures.
This one — known as Shakti Mudra — is a tool that you can incorporate in your seated meditation to more intentionally call upon the creative feminine forces within.
Shakti is the feminine aspect of cosmic energy, which is endowed into the womb of every female, willing her with the most potent inherent medicine to nurture, nourish and heal. It is the axial power of a woman — from which the gift to give life, create art, nourish, nurture and maintain equanimity arises. Shakti provides the necessary generation of energy for the ongoing cycles of life to continue.
According to Ayurveda expert Maya Tiwari,* Shakti Mudra is recommended for restoring vital energy to the womb and bringing its rhythms in balance with lunar energies. This is a supportive practice if you have recently had a miscarriage, abortion, recent divorce, heartache, or are experiencing fertility challenges. This mudra can enhance your sense of self, and reinforce your connection to your feminine side. Ready to try it? Here’s how…
How to do Shakti Mudra During Your Yoni Steam
-
Sit in a comfortable posture during your yoni steam practice, or in lotus pose in a quiet place in your home or outdoors, facing east.
-
Bring your hands together and then separate them slowly from the palms, leaving the finger tips touching.
-
Keep the tips of your ring fingers and pinky fingers together.
-
Rest the thumbs into the palm of your hands by bending them, and fold the pointer and middle fingers over the thumbs.
-
Rest the bent fingers on one another.
-
Breathe deeply into the pelvic area and breathe out slowly, tracing the exhalation from the base of the perineum, circulating it through the uterus and belly.
-
Maintain this position for at least 5 minutes.
-
Take a deep breath and make a commitment to a life of creation and joy.
Including Shakti Mudra as part of your yoni steam ritual and as a daily practice will help revive memory of your feminine power within, strengthen Shakti prana, and fortify your womb space.
