Steam your vagina! Here's why
"Today I experienced my first cramp free period in my life!...
...My monthly period has been the bane of my existence for my whole menstruating life. I have literally crumpled in tears on many a' bathroom floor over the years. Words cannot express my gratitude for you sharing this amazing information."
Amazing stories like this one are increasingly shared by women who have....HUH?... steamed their vaginas.
The woman who shared this story had integrated the yoni steam (aka vaginal steam) into her weekly health and self-care ritual. While the practice of yoni steaming remains unknown to many women in Western culture today, it is well-respected among holistic doctors, midwives, and traditional healers around the globe... and it has been for centuries.
But why? The short answer: because yoni steams make a real difference
The benefits of this simple herbal treatment are vast and varied, as yoni steaming is a natural way to support the female reproductive system to maintain its own healthy function. The process of using medicinal herbs to gently steam the vulva is known to help regulate the female cycle, decrease pain and bloating associated with menstruation, treat uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts, improve fertility, support healthy vaginal odor, and increase a sense of well-being.
Leading expert in the field, Dr. Rosita Arvigo, ND, Director of The Arvigo Institute, shares her experience with the practice, remarking, “We have seen absolutely astounding and universal results from yoni steaming. The results are clear!”
Yoni steams are nothing new
This women's health ritual has been used throughout history to support women’s reproductive health, and is still commonly used by women in both Korean and Mayan cultures. Today, yoni steaming is gaining popularity among women in the Westernized world, with some doctors beginning to incorporate the time-tested women’s wisdom in to their practice...
In a recent article by Katinka Locascio for The Guardian, Dr. Rebecca Cohen shared, “I recommend vaginal steams in my practice regularly for a variety of reasons, including fertility support, vaginal dryness during menopause and nursing, menstrual irregularities and postpartum support.”
As a result, a growing number of women are sharing their remarkable success stories, revealing the effectiveness of yoni steams for overcoming a vast array of women’s reproductive health problems - from the physical to the emotional to the spiritual.
For many women, the benefits of yoni steaming go beyond physical health
Women who regularly practice yoni steaming report a heightened self-esteem and improved sense of well-being after each treatment. Yoni steaming feels good both physically and emotionally, and as a result, some spas have begun offering yoni steams to their clients.
But while it may be an excellent way for women to pamper ourselves, yoni steaming should not be confused with a beauty treatment. It is much more than a “facial for down-there,” as some have called it. Furthermore, it need not be an expensive treatment reserved for the privileged. In fact, yoni steams can be done in the comfort of any home, and are quite inexpensive. (You can learn exactly how this is done by downloading the FREE PDF RESOURCE "How to Yoni Steam" Ritual Guide from the above right).
But...exactly how does yoni steaming work?
Yoni steaming works by applying the warmth of gentle steam carrying the volatile oils of medicinal plants to the exterior tissues of the vagina (this area is referred to as the “vulva”).
As the warmth and moisture of the steam increase circulation to the region, the vagina and pelvic floor are relaxed and softened. The steam causes the labia to swell and expose more tissue, and the mucus membranes to thin. Because these tissues are very porous, the volatile oils are absorbed into the bloodstream, and eventually into the uterus where their medicinal properties can go to work.
Herbs like motherwort are astringent, tonifying and cleansing, helping to regulate menstrual flow, relax uterine muscles and reduce cramps, while an herb like mugwort balances female hormones and protects the uterus from maladies such as ulcers, cysts and tumors.
Yoni steaming is a very gentle process that does not involve any sort of high-pressure application of hot water or steam. No pressure is necessary, especially since the steam does not need to enter through the vagina itself, but rather the porous exterior tissues. Given its gentle nature, yoni steaming is safe for most any woman to try at home, unless she has a severe infection, has an Intrauterine Device (IUD), or thinks she may be pregnant.
Although it is often referred to as a “vaginal steam,” many prefer to call this gentle process "yoni steaming" because indeed it is more than just the vagina and external organs that benefit from the medicinal steam. In Sanskrit, the term “yoni” refers to the entire female reproductive system – from the exterior vulva to the internal womb - all of which benefit immensely from the medicinal properties of the yoni steaming herbs and steam.
The results are extraordinary.
Countless women have shared their testimonials, lending to a growing body of evidence that demonstrates the effectiveness of this ancient practice.
One woman shared, “After doing 3 steams my period has appeared to have returned to normal! I was experiencing very heavy long periods. One period lasted 18 days. After steaming, my last period lasted 5 days and I hardly had any PMS symptoms...no clotting or heavy bleeding.”
Whether a woman’s life is dramatically improved on account of easier menstruation, or she simply experiences a greater connection with her own body, the benefits of yoni steaming are clear. It's time every woman is aware of this natural solution to their reproductive health challenges, and has access to the information and resources she needs to treat herself.
Let's share this remedy with our sisters everywhere, because we are all happier and healthier when our yonis are treated well!
