Celebrate Your Body Through Womb Massage

Your womb is your creative center, and is a powerful force in the world. It is, after all, the origin of life — the place from which we birth not only babies, but ideas, visions, and connections. It is central to your energetic, emotional, sexual and intellectual wellbeing.

Yet, most of us are disconnected with this powerful place in our bodies...

In addition to a regular yoni steaming practice, one lovely and effective way to clear your womb and reconnect to this sacred space in your body is through the practice of a castor oil womb massage.

Castor oil is known in Ayurveda to break up masses that are the cause of any blockages. It works by traveling through subtle channels through warm massage to increase the flow of lymph and clear pathways.

The castor bean plant and its thick oil has been used in traditional remedies in India, China, Persia, Greece, Rome, Europe and the Americas for over 4,000 years. There are even accounts of castor oil therapies dating back to ancient Egypt! This non-toxic plant has been used by healers throughout time, and there are modern scientific studies verifying the efficacy of castor oil for a variety of purposes.

Benefits Of Castor Oil

  • Breaks up masses (such as fibroids, scars and adhesions) as well as congestion in the pelvic bowl

  • Increases circulation — supports detoxification and improves fertility

  • Increases the flow of lymph — which activates a healthy immune response, softens the pain and tension of PMS and increases overall vitality

  • Increases the number of T-cell lymphocytes, empowering the body to produce more antibodies for killing viruses, fungi, and bacteria

  • Awakens the parasympathetic nerves — bringing a sense of calm and deeper sleep when used before bed

  • Supports healthy bowel function and relief of constipation

How to do a womb massage

  • Warm the castor oil by placing it in a small jar inside a bowl of hot water

  • Dip your fingers in the warm oil, and spread it lovingly across your lower back.

  • Massage in strokes that move from your sides inward and from your upper back downward, as this encourages stuck material toward your digestive tract for effective release

  • Use light to medium pressure

  • Once the oil is rubbed in, lay down with a warm water bottle or heating pad across your lower back for at least 15 minutes.

  • If you feel the need to clean up, rub a mixture of baking soda and water on your lower back and take a warm shower.

  • Get in bed for a restful night of sleep!

Timing and Frequency

Because castor oil can encourage a parasympathetic response, and thus support restful sleep, it is best to do right before bed. This practice is supportive anytime, except for the week you are menstruating. If you are trying to conceive, you’ll also want to pause your castor oil womb massage after ovulation.

This practice is a beautiful and gentle way to honor and celebrate your sacred womb to reconnect with the goddess within you, to enliven your wellness, and inspire your purpose!
